Kids' Korner Child Development Center Newsletter for March 18, 2021

COVID-19 Update

The NC Childcare Interim Guidelines have been updated again. Here is a link to the toolkit, but the major changes are the quarantine guidelines (reduced based on negative COVID test) and an attestation form. I will be passing these out as soon as it is created for every family to review and sign. All other COVID-19 requirements are still in place and need to be followed. Thank you for you cooperation!!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Kids’ Korner is super excited about a new program that is being offered – 1000 Books Before Kindergarten! We will be participating as a class but you may participate individually as well. There are great incentives for children and below is more information. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a national program that promotes reading to children ages 0-5. Reading to children early and often improves pre-literacy skills and word knowledge and helps parents and children bond. Cabarrus County Public Library has adopted the program and integrated the five “Every Child Ready to Read” pillars—reading, writing, singing, playing, and talking - to provide a full range of activities and themes that foster lifelong learning. This program is for children between the ages of 0 and 5, and their caregivers. Every child in this age range is welcome to participate! Parents/caregivers can sign their children up for the program online or through the Beanstack app. If you do not wish to participate online, you can sign up in person at any library location. After sign up, you can pick up a folder of materials to help them along the way. These items are optional and free, and will also be available to view or print online. This program is perpetually open to new participants! There are no set deadlines, other than the goal of reaching 1,000 books read before the child reaches Kindergarten. Once enrolled in the program, you can participate at a pace that best suits your child’s needs, and track your progress online, through the Beanstack app, or manually. Once a child reaches the 500 books milestone, they are eligible to pick up a prize bag at the library! Families who finish the program and reach 1,000 books will receive an invitation to a special, annual celebration recognizing their achievement and hard work. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Cabarrus County's Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) program mails a free high-quality book to children that reside in Cabarrus County from birth to age five. Through funding from NC Smart Start, the Cabarrus County Partnership for Children administers this free book-gifting program to children living in Cabarrus County who are under the age of 5. Simply visit this page to register your child and wait for their first book - "The Little Engine That Could" - to arrive in the mail in about eight weeks. Books will be mailed to your child every month after that until they are five years of age. Please remember to contact the Partnership if you move or your address changes. Kindergarten Readiness

Each year around this time, we usually offer a kindergarten readiness workshop for parents with children who will be heading off to kindergarten in the Fall. Due to COVID, this isn’t possible, but here is a great website that provides all of the same information that you can watch from the comfort of your couch. Let me know if you have questions!
